How to Enter Ecuador: Travel Basics

For most international travelers, getting ready for a journey to Ecuador is simple and stress-free. There’s no long list of documents to worry about.  When it comes to how to enter Ecuador, here’s what every explorer should know:

  • Valid Passport: To meet Ecuador’s entry requirements, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. Immigration officials may also require at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps.
  • Visa Requirements: While Ecuador visa requirements vary by nationality, most citizens from North America and Europe do not need a visa for tourist stays up to 90 days. For longer stays or other types of travel, check with the Ecuadorian embassy or consulate in your country.
  • Entry Rules: Entering Ecuador is straightforward. Most COVID-19 requirements have been lifted; however, it’s always best to confirm the latest regulations with your airline before traveling.

Vaccines & Health Considerations

While Ecuador’s general travel requirements are straightforward, health-related regulations may vary depending on your country of origin and the specific regions you plan to visit:

  • Yellow Fever Vaccine: Ecuador no longer requires an International Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate for all travelers. However, proof of vaccination may still be necessary if you are arriving from, or have recently transited through, a country with yellow fever risk. The vaccine is also strongly recommended for travelers planning to visit the Amazon region.
  • Other Vaccines: Travelers are advised to stay up to date on routine immunizations — including measles, tetanus, hepatitis A and B, and typhoid—especially if planning an extended stay or visiting rural areas.

Galapagos Entrance Fee

The Galapagos Islands: These iconic islands have a dedicated entry process. Travelers must present a round-trip ticket and meet a few additional requirements:

  • Transit Control Card (TCT): US$20 per person, purchased at the airport before your flight.
  • Biosafety Declaration: an online form declaring that you are not carrying prohibited items such as plants, seeds, or untreated foods.
  • Galapagos National Park Entrance Fee: US$200 for adults (12+) and US$100 for children (under 12), payable in cash (USD).

These contributions go directly toward conservation initiatives, helping protect the islands’ unique ecosystems and ensuring they remain pristine for future generations.
