Volunteer Program at the Karanki Magdalena Community

[:en]Day 1: Quito – Otavalo – Indigenous market – Cotacachi Leather market– Magdalena – Karanki community
Morning visit to the famed craft market of Otavalo (2.550msnm), which is the most famous and picturesque in South America. Markets are meeting places for shopping, bargaining, and chatter while people of the region exchange local produce, animals, utensils, pots, and pans or textiles. For visitors, the markets offer the possibility of approaching Ecuadorians at a more intimate level as you negotiate prices of a variety of woven goods, bags, hats, flutes or simply appreciate the skillful and generous people responsible for the elegance and beauty of the clothing and handicrafts.

The tour also offers a range of alternatives, including villages such as Cotacachi, an Indigenous village which features leatherwork including bags, jackets, hats, gloves, and belts. Dinner & Accommodation Magdalena Community.

Day 2: Volunteering in Magdalena Indigenous Community
After breakfast, share your English skills by giving lessons to the kids in Magdalena school. Spend your time with the local children in educational activities where you both can learn from each other.

Enjoy the local cuisine with a delicious lunch and continue your day with the various optional activities that the community offers: hiking the nearby hills, biking around, horseback riding and more.

At night, enjoy of a traditional dinner prepared with the local produce.

Day 3: Volunteering in Magdalena Indigenous Community
Next day, after breakfast we continue our volunteering work in the social areas of the community.  Along with the family members, we will go to the communal center to paint or do some maintenance work in the longhouse.  All materials will be provided for the different activities.

Enjoy the local cuisine with a delicious lunch and continue your day with the various optional activities that the community offers: hiking the nearby hills, biking around, horseback riding and more.

At night, enjoy of a traditional dinner prepared with the local produce.

Day 4: Volunteering in Magdalena Indigenous Community
On this day, we will help the host to maintain the house orchards, and the family will teach us all about traditional harvesting techniques; seeding, planting, keeping the crops clean.

Enjoy the local cuisine with a delicious lunch and continue your day with the various optional activities that the community offers: hiking the nearby hills, biking around, horseback riding and more.

At night, enjoy of a traditional dinner prepared with the local produce.

Day 5: Magdalena – Ibarra – train ride to Salinas (26km) – Quito
Arriving in the morning to the city of Ibarra, we will embark on a train journey engineered in the early 20th-century that connects the northern Ecuadorian Andes and the Pacific Coast. The ride descends into the warm, dry valley of Salinas, across sugarcane plantations, magical landscapes, through tunnels and over bridges spanning canyons and patchwork fields.

Enjoy a unique lunch at the Salinas afro-Ecuadorian community restaurant, implemented by Go Galapagos – Kleintours in an effort to boost tourism in support of this fascinating area.   The menu has been carefully put together through with the community to share the local savoir-faire with our high-quality standards.

Por la mañana visita al famoso mercado artesanal de Otavalo (2.550msnm), que es el más famoso y pintoresco de Sudamérica. Los mercados son lugares de encuentro para comprar, negociar y parlotear, mientras que la gente de la región intercambia productos locales, animales, utensilios, ollas y sartenes o textiles. Para los visitantes, los mercados ofrecen la posibilidad de acercarse a los ecuatorianos en un nivel más íntimo al negociar precios de una variedad de productos tejidos, bolsos, sombreros, flautas o simplemente apreciar a las personas hábiles y generosas responsables de la elegancia y belleza de la ropa y artesanías.

El recorrido también ofrece una variedad de alternativas, que incluyen pueblos como Cotacachi, un pueblo indígena que cuenta con marroquinería que incluye bolsos, chaquetas, sombreros, guantes y cinturones. Cena y alojamiento Comunidad Magdalena.

Día 2: Voluntariado en la Comunidad Indígena de Magdalena

Después del desayuno, comparta sus conocimientos de inglés dando clases a los niños en la escuela Magdalena. Pase su tiempo con los niños locales en actividades educativas donde ambos puedan aprender el uno del otro.

Disfrute de la cocina local con un delicioso almuerzo y continúe su día con las diversas actividades opcionales que ofrece la comunidad: caminatas por las colinas cercanas, andar en bicicleta, montar a caballo y más.

Por la noche, disfrute de una cena tradicional preparada con productos locales.

Día 3: Voluntariado en la Comunidad Indígena de Magdalena

Al día siguiente, después del desayuno, continuamos nuestro trabajo de voluntariado en las áreas sociales de la comunidad. Junto con los miembros de la familia, iremos al centro comunitario para pintar o hacer algún trabajo de mantenimiento en la casa comunal. Todos los materiales serán provistos para las diferentes actividades.

Disfrute de la cocina local con un delicioso almuerzo y continúe su día con las diversas actividades opcionales que ofrece la comunidad: caminatas por las colinas cercanas, andar en bicicleta, montar a caballo y más.

Por la noche, disfrute de una cena tradicional preparada con productos locales.

Día 4: Voluntariado en la Comunidad Indígena de Magdalena

En este día, ayudaremos al anfitrión a mantener los huertos de la casa, y la familia nos enseñará acerca de las técnicas tradicionales de cosecha; sembrar, plantar, mantener limpios los cultivos.

Disfrute de la cocina local con un delicioso almuerzo y continúe su día con las diversas actividades opcionales que ofrece la comunidad: caminatas por las colinas cercanas, andar en bicicleta, montar a caballo y más.

Por la noche, disfrute de una cena tradicional preparada con productos locales.

Día 5: Magdalena – Ibarra – viaje en tren a Salinas (26km) – Quito

Al llegar por la mañana a la ciudad de Ibarra, nos embarcaremos en un viaje en tren diseñado a principios del siglo XX que conecta los Andes del norte de Ecuador y la costa del Pacífico. El viaje desciende al cálido y seco valle de Salinas, atravesando plantaciones de caña de azúcar, paisajes mágicos, a través de túneles y puentes sobre cañones y campos de parcelas.

Disfrute de un almuerzo único en el restaurante comunitario afro-ecuatoriano Salinas, implementado por Go Galapagos – Kleintours en un esfuerzo por impulsar el turismo en apoyo de esta fascinante área. El menú ha sido cuidadosamente elaborado junto con la comunidad para compartir el savoir-faire local con nuestros estándares de alta calidad.
