ITINERARY
Day 1 - Colonial Quito - El Panecillo Hill
Colonial Quito.
Quito was the first UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site declared in 1978. It boasts the largest colonial town in the Americas, featuring an eclectic architecture ranging from modern quarters to varied colonial facades on churches and private residences, with balconies built over the last five centuries.
Visit the gothic Basilica del Voto Nacional and the Independence Plaza, flanked by the Presidential and Archbishop’s palaces, dating back to the 17th and 19th centuries. Experience the spirit of Quito by walking to the Metropolitan Cathedral, which showcases excellent samples of the Spanish Renaissance.
Stroll along the so-called street of the Seven Crosses and pass by the Jesuit convent, El Sagrario Church, with its unique orthodox cross layout from the 17th century. Visit the Jesuit temple of baroque art, La Compañía de Jesús, the jewel of colonial architecture in Quito. Continue to the San Francisco Plaza, which includes a temple and convent, displaying a rich sample of artistic and cultural heritage.
El Panecillo Hill.
On this tour, you’ll visit one of the city’s most iconic natural viewpoints: “El Panecillo.” This small hill is located in the heart of Quito’s Historic Center. At the top, you’ll find the Virgin of Quito, a stunning replica of the Apocalyptic Virgin sculpture crafted by Bernardo de Legarda. From this strategic spot, you’ll enjoy breathtaking 360° city views. On clear days, you might even glimpse the majestic volcanoes surrounding Quito.
End the tour with a delightful dinner at a restaurant serving typical local cuisine in the old town.
